HTC Touchflo mobiles on Airtel.

Posted on June 30, 2007. Filed under: gadgets, mobile |

Its rainy season here, and iPhone season in US. But if you are anywhere in Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Ahemdabad, Hyderabad then you will be able to lay your hands on a touch phone with commendable technology from HTC on Airtel. HTC is a Tiwanese corp, making smart phone. This phone priced at ~Rs20,ooo/- is boasting of a revolutionary Touch FLO technology which will be able to identify between stylus and finger. I dont think it would be multi touch, but would be running on Windows Mobile 6. This handset/PDA would be having one touch clicks for SMS, Email, Call, Callendar, E-Mail.
Specs are as follows

  • Dimensions: 99.9mm (L) x 58mm (W) x 13.9mm (T)
  • Weight: 112g with battery
  • 1GB microSD storage card included / 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM
  • 2.8″ LCD touch screen with backlight, 240 x 320 dots resolution with 65,536 colours
  • Battery Life: Rechargeable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1100 mAh
  • Standby time: Up to 200 / Talk time: Up to 5 hours
  • Camera: 2.0 mega-pixel CMOS colour camera
  • Windows Mobile 6® Professional with Direct Push Email and HTML email support
  • Wireless Connectivity: GSM/GPRS/EDGE Tri-band: 900, 1800,1900, Wi-Fi®: IEEE 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth® 2.0
  • Choice of two colors at launch – elegant soft black or alluring wasabi green

If you are taking it specs by specs and compare it with iPhone then you would be pretty happy to have this.
But as rumor mill(via: Engadget) is saying that Apple would be declaring a launch date of a 3G iPhone for European market, and that too on various carriers, I would suggest you to wait for an Asian release and then invest into high end mobile, though tentatively people are hoping for an early 2008 release, but I think Christmas or Diwali release can be on cards.

I got a new camera…

Posted on June 28, 2007. Filed under: camera, Flogging, gadgets |

Its a real big news for me. One can easily estimate how big this news is by knowing the fact that my exams are going on, and in the midst of heavy schedule I am taking some time out to photo blog about my new camera. It is SONY snap shot camera, DSC W-32, a 7.2 mega pixel camera, quite minimalistic in features, but nice picture quality. These photos were taken from my Nokia 5200 music phone.

Previously I had a film based snap shot camera, which was much bigger than this and presently my hands are trying to get feel of this new small baby. All in all I liked the way it is performing.

Here are few photos from the 35. These are two photos I shot while experimenting with its macro option.

Hibiscus

Pink

If you can point out my mistakes in shots then please feel free to comment.

Hello… I am iPhone.

Posted on June 27, 2007. Filed under: apple, gadgets |

One thing which this post will be shouting loud is, that user media s indeed becoming more and more prominent and strong.
Those jibing Mac v/s Windows advertisements, shown by Jobs were hit of some sort among the Mac-o-holics, and they really have strong sense of humor…If they had sense of humor then what does these advertisements contain…and they are not even by NOKIA.

They are just plain facts…

Having something in the same way you gave it, can sometimes become bit difficult to swallow. But Apple can thanks almighty that its not an official campaign.

I dont think that these ads are in any way going to harm the ongoing iPhone frenzy, Jobs just create such a beautiful aura around his products that people in general never feels it essential to look elsewhere. He is a pure maverick. On any given day, or night and at any moment I can say three cheers for him.

What would be interesting to know in future is that who will leas the pack, Nokia N95 or Apple iPhone.

Special Mention : Great job by these people, who made this video. Though conceptually they copied but they took it to another level on there heels. Nice job, and a healthy way of advertising also, because many will just follow the links which they give at the end of each clip. I some how managed to stop myself…. 😉

Apple’s I Phone, where is phone.[Updated]

Posted on January 11, 2007. Filed under: gadgets |

Apple’s I-phone, that probably wont remain I phone as Cisco people are on fire and are burning apples.

And as of me, I am not at all excited about Apples Iphone.

First of all I want to know, that is it Ipod with telecommunication abilities or a phone with Ipod capabilities. And if its phoe then where is a numberpad. I am siting far away from the launch and all the hooh plah, but still what I can see is that there is no keypad, not even a virtual one. And when I showed it to my mom, she said that this is useless, and said that why should she spend some 600$ for a phone that does not have a keypad. And even I would prefer buying an Ipod and a phone separately. And Nokia is providing me better options here in India.

Apple is too much of a US centric company, which for such products is not good. And even of US point of view, they are locked on Cingular, and I dont think Cingular is having a 100% capture over market. Battery life as it is being reported sucks. Camera…just 2GB, humph… 600$ and +, I get only a 2MP camera, 2MP is just so normal. Apple will be very late when they will come in India, which is not going to happen in coming 1 year. And if Nokia and other players in India get on the social apron, then Apple is in for some big troubles.

UPDATE:
As Abhishek has pointed out in his comment, that I have not mentioned about the cool features of Iphone, here they are…but this post was not meant to introduce you all to Iphone, which is done brilliantly over here, here and here. It was more of comment on Iphone, because when it is about gadget then one must have at least two senses at work, and I had only one, sight, and the touch was missing. And allways remember that it is a Smart Phone.
Cool features…

  • All touch screen.(Ok..wash your hands before you touch it… ;-0
  • Patented QWERTY key board(touch screen)
  • Quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900)
  • Visual Voicemail (Lists all voice mails and allows to select them as in emails.)
  • On connectivity front; Bluetooth , Wi-Fi , POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail, and a Safari Web browser.
  • Few sensors; proximity sensor: dims light when brought near to body( I want that in my room , when I increase proximity…[;-)], ambient light sensor adjusts brightness and saves power, accelerometer: switches screen from landscape and portrait mode.

The big question is, whether, iPhone would be able to break in mobile market or not? iPod was successful not just because of its design but also due to iTunes, which was there as a seamless support. What none of the mobile company have is … something like iTunes. Xpress Music phones from Nokia would certainly pose some kind of challenge to iPhones.

PS3, gaming in Indian context.

Posted on November 24, 2006. Filed under: gadgets, gaming |

To be honest I havent seen PS3 and neither PSP in real. There are few reasons for that, firstly I am not a good gamer, and secondly there is no gaming device policy in place from sony. For those who are planning to buy any of the two device and want an Indian warranty version, my suggestion would be buy it, or go for Xbox 360.
Before I continue, let us see the MRP of PSP ans PS2 in india

  • PSP — Rs.15,480
  • PS2 — Rs.11,980

But this world is very fast, we in India are being fed by news of PS3 and Nintendo Wii launches worldwide. PS3 recently wnet for midnight launch in US, at a minimum price tag of 600$ approx. That makes it nearly Rs.27,000 if your uncle live in US. But I dont think this is a right time to bother your uncle for PS3. Why??
You must be thinking hard, for it, why would I say that this is not right time to bring in PS3. I would say it because you wont find a set game library in India for PS3, secondly, inspite of its goliath type power, it would be a like something from future in your room. Because soon many of you would find that your TV’s does not do justice to its power.
Leaving all this aside, let us understand this PS3 game. To put it frankly, Sony are selling PS3 in loss, their console price is much more than 600$. Then there is another thing, which is called as Blue Ray, its high def. DVD format competing against HD-DVD format supported by Rival Toshiba and Microsoft. And any good Blue Ray player will in present conditions would cost more than 600$. They will earn profit in future, but havent they put too much in laps of future by making a highly advanced technology in the black box and named it PS3. They will earn profit when games start selling which will provide them with royalty and same will happen with Blue Ray, but this will happen only and only if they sell their consoles well.
And now what about India? As an outdoor person I dont admire computer or console games, but as a tech freak I love there technology. But I think sony will at least take an year or so to launch PS3 in India. BY the mean time I will suggest you to go for Xbox 360, because its in more enjoyable condition, with few good games in kitty and good internet support and community and it can integrate well with PC though not seamlessly.
